Stan – who portrays Bucky Barnes in Marvel’s second TV series for Disney Plus – has been put forward by fans to take on the Jedi role within the franchise, with many people pointing out that he bears a resemblance to Mark Hamill who originally played Luke in 1977’s A New Hope.
Hamill has previously acknowledged the connection, joking about being Stan’s father in a 2017 Twitter post. Later that year, Stan made a joke audition tape for the part.
Speaking about the potential casting during an appearance on Good Morning America, the hosts pointed out the fact that Hamill himself appears to be on board for the idea.
Stan replied: “Well, if Mark Hamill calls me personally and says that he feels inclined to share this role with me, then I’ll believe it.”
The actor recently revealed he still struggled to pay his rent after his first Captain America appearance.
Stan has played Bucky Barnes aka The Winter Soldier since 2011, appearing in the Captain America trilogy of movies, as well as other Marvel films including Black Panther and Avengers: Endgame.
He now stars opposite Anthony Mackie as the titular heroes of Marvel’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Since its debut episode aired last week, the series has received mostly favourable reviews.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier airs Fridays on Disney Plus.
