Hawkeye is the Most Valuable Avenger:
Hawkeye surely is one of the underrated Avengers. At least the MCU hasn’t really given him as big of importance as the other 5. He hasn’t got as much to do as he does in the comics or in any Marvel Animated TV series, but his story arc has still been satisfying enough. Remember he was injured back in the beginning of Age of Ultron and Helen Cho was treating him? Nat asked Helen by saying – “You sure he’s gonna be okay? Pretending to need this guy really brings the team together.” Hawkeye wasn’t included in Infinity War, and the team didn’t even come together. The Avengers lost. In fact, every time Hawkeye was in the team, victory was ensured. Hawkeye is surely the most valuable Avenger.
But Hawkeye isn’t just valuable because of his expert spying ability, combat skills, and archery skills. He has actually proven to be the most valuable Avenger in monetary terms as well. You’d think that Iron Man would win any battle when it comes to the money. But no. It is Hawkeye who has proven to be the best Avenger in terms of the return on invest and critic score numbers. A study was conducted combining the production budgets, box office earnings, meta scores, IMDb scores, award nominations, and award wins. Just imagine, Black Panther got the most award nominations, and yet he was no match for any of the Avengers apart from Doctor Strange. The following study even called Black Panther the best Marvel movie till date, having a big ROI and the best critical acclaims for any superhero film. But still, the King of Wakanda came at the 9th position.
Film Franchise Showdown compiled all data, and their study reads:
“Hawkeye has appeared in six MCU instalments to date, claiming an average ROI of 5.3 per film. In comparison, each film that features Thor has an average ROI of 5.06, Captain America has an ROI of 4.9, and Iron Man has an average ROI of 4.8 per appearance. The detailed analysis shows that Black Panther remains the best Marvel instalment to date thanks to its high box office sum and critical acclaim, while The Incredible Hulk was met with the least financial and critical success overall.”
Hawkeye has appeared in just 5 MCU films (Thor, The Avengers, Age of Ultron, Civil War, Endgame). And just those 5 appearances have made him a big deal. Here’s the top 10 rankings of the most valuable MCU Superheroes. No. 2 is going to surprise you even more:
- Black Widow
- Captain America
- Iron Man
- Nick Fury
- Black Panther
- Doctor Strange
The study further states:
“Comparing the MCU to other high-earning film franchises shows that the Lord of the Rings is the best franchise overall, boasting the highest critical success and earning a staggering $5.85 (£4.76) billion at the box office alone. Marvel’s Black Panther is the film that has received the most award nominations, while The Return of The King boasts the most award wins. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is the most acclaimed franchise overall when both award nominations and wins are accounted for.”
But we can surely state that the MCU is the most profitable franchise in monetary terms. And it’s great to know that Hawkeye was the one leading as the most valuable Avenger. Now, we get to say goodbye to him as he passes on his mantle to a young new hero – Kate Bishop. The Hawkeye series now has a production grid. We all thought that the Coronavirus might not let it begin production this year, but apparently cameras are set to begin rolling in September. The show is supposed to film in Atlanta, Georgia on September 28. Here’s what the project summary states:
“Clint Barton, a.k.a. Hawkeye, passes the torch to Kate Bishop. Bishop takes up the Hawkeye mantle after Barton. She is also a member of the group known as the Young Avengers.”
So, we should surely get the Hawkeye series by the end of next year if it is beginning to shoot this year. Go Hawkeye!
