Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse being an animated film totally opened up many possibilities for the future of live action Spider-Man. It not only gave us the idea that Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters could mix up with the MCU (which will start to show when Morbius arrives), but it also gave us a dream of a live action movie with all three Spider-Men – Tobey Maguire, Tom Holland & Andrew Garfield. Sony left open endings for both of their previous Spider-Men, and they could perfectly step into a story that combines all 3 Spider-Men.
It is a fact that many of us prefer Tom Holland, many liked Maguire better, and some even prefer Garfield over the other two. So, a movie involving all 3 Spider-Men would be a total winner. The Multiverse will be established in the greatest way possible within the coming years and the aforementioned project will become even more plausible.
You’d like to know that Sony Pictures already has this idea in their minds. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse became a major critical success. It even won an Oscar over the likes of Incredibles 2. Sony is planning to build a strong franchise of the Spider-verse animated films. But, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse producer Chris Miller revealed that he even pitched an idea for the live action movie Spider-verse movie with the 3 famed stars in the lead. But that idea had been shot down as Sony thought that it was “too soon.”
Now don’t get sad over it because both parties are right in their opinion. A live action Multiverse movie has never been done and the prospect of seeing Holland, Garfield & Maguire together has excited us all from the moment we saw Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (if not earlier). So, Christopher Miller was right to pitch it and Sony was right to shoot it down. Both Marvel & Sony have plenty at their hands right now.
Sony wants to establish their own shared Universe and Marvel has to take Spidey’s story forward so he could fight the Sinister Six & blend well with other MCU properties. A Multiverse Spider-Man movie should happen, but in time. We should get it maybe be 4-5 years down the line. Till then, Sony will have done films with Venom, Morbius, Kraven & even Spider-Woman. And Marvel would’ve made him take on the Sinister Six, used him in other crossovers and probably introduced Miles Morales’ Spider-Man. This way there will be 4 Universes (if MCU & SPUMC are different) for Sony & Marvel to bring together & they could really have a big choice.
It could start with Holland, Garfield & Maguire, but it could grow into a franchise of its own with Venom, Morbius & even Miles Morales coming into the mix. By this time, the Multiverse would’ve also been established perfectly, so more people would be attracted with the idea of seeing veteran Spider-Man actors together.
And it could work perfectly story wise. Maguire could be given a grand exit. He might even sacrifice himself to save others. Garfield could get a retirement, or maybe a death by a plot twist. There would be 3-4 Spider-Men, so Marvel & Sony could certainly afford killing off one of them midway. But you can’t deny the fact that it’d be awesome.
DC did a tremendous job by uniting all of their universes through The CW. But all they could afford to do were awesome cameos. In the films, so much more could happen. And a multiverse crossover could even lead to other interesting stories and spin-offs. Let’s just hope that the Pandemic goes away within the next year and the movie making mavericks go back to work. Because that is how people will be saved, businesses will be saved and many of our related dreams would come true.
I just have the biggest passion for everything cinematic! I want to share this passion with everyone through my writing about Hollywood Movies and TV. Other than that, I am a big sports fanatic and enthusiast. I’d like to write about my favorite sports as well some day.
