Sinister Six Movie Got Canceled:
Spider-Man is a superhero with more than two homes now. Before Tom Holland became a house-hold phenomenon after portraying the wall-crawling vigilante on the screen under the Marvel Cinematic Universe banner, Sony had already turned Spider-Man into a pop culture Phenomenon with the Sam Raimi Trilogy as well as The Amazing Spider-man series of movies. And as it turns out, had it not been for Disney and Marvel Studios’ meddling, we could have seen a supervillain team on a screen that every Spider-Man fan is desperate to see Spider-Man go toe to toe with.
This revelation was brought to light by one of the actors who played a vital role in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Dane DeHaan played Harry Osborn aka the Green Goblin In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, was the one who revealed it to the public. So we know that the source is credible enough.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 movie had a very unsuccessful run at the International Box Office and so Sony Entertainment became a bit hesitant at making another movie as part of the pre-planned Amazing Spider-Man trilogy. But had the plans gone through since Sony wanted the trilogy done right, the Sinister Six could have finally come to the Theatres. The only reason they could not be because, as Dane Dehaan claims is Spiderman was “stolen” from Sony.
Drew Goddard, the Director of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, really wanted this to happen. He had already set it up with certain well-placed scenes to ensure the fans knew what his vision for the final ode to the trilogy would be. Harry Osborn becoming the Green Goblin, the post-credits scene that never made it to the theatres, as well as the presence of other supervillains in the previous movie like The Lizard, were all going to lead towards the formation of the Sinister Six in the third and final installment.
The plans never came to fruition because Sony ended up giving up the rights to Spider-Man to Disney and Marvel Studios. Sony has since retracted from the deal and Spider-Man is all set to become a part of the Sony Super-Hero Universe again.
Dane DeHaan was in an interview regarding his newest Quibi series The Stranger when the Spider-Man movies ended up becoming a subject of interest. DeHaan claims he had very little idea regarding the story for the third Amazing Spider-Man movie but from what he had gathered, he was dead sure that the Sinister Six were going to be an important element of it. He said and we quote:
Not necessarily. I think it’s pretty obvious they were all setting up for like a Sinister Six kind of situation and there was certainly talk of doing all that before all the Disney, Marvel stuff happened. But I can’t tell you I know specifically what it was gonna be. I just know that there definitely would have been a Sinister Six element to it. And, you know, at least the Goblin, if not Harry Osborne would have been involved.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 movie was released on the 1st of May, 2014. The official film synopsis for the movie reads:
Confident in his powers as Spider-Man, Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) embraces his new role as a hero and spends time with Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) in between protecting New York from criminals. However, his greatest battle yet is about to begin. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront an enemy far more powerful than he is. And when his old friend Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan) returns, Peter comes to realize that all his enemies have one thing in common: Oscorp.
The Last Solo Marvel movie to be released under the Disney banner is Spider-Man: Far From Home. The movie was released on the 2nd of November, 2018. The official film synopsis for the movie reads:
Peter Parker’s relaxing European vacation takes an unexpected turn when Nick Fury shows up in his hotel room to recruit him for a mission. The world is in danger as four massive elemental creatures — each representing Earth, air, water and fire — emerge from a hole torn in the universe. Parker soon finds himself donning the Spider-Man suit to help Fury and fellow superhero Mysterio stop the evil entities from wreaking havoc across the continent.
Do I really look like a guy with a plan? You know what I am? I’m a dog chasing cars. I wouldn’t know what to do with one if I caught it! You know, I just… do things
