Shang-Chi introduce Another MCU Villain:
Shang-Chi and the Legends of the Ten Rings is currently undergoing production in Australia. There’s very less that people know about Destin Daniel Cretton’s upcoming MCU movie. A lot of people aren’t familiar with Shang-Chi as a character as he has become popular only in the last decade or so. It will finally bring Iron Man’s arch nemesis, the real Mandarin. Iron Man 3 showed us an imposter, and later it was teased that the 10 Rings & the real Mandarin is still out there. But apparently, the Mandarin isn’t the only villain coming in this movie.
Industry insider Daniel Ritchman has given a tip that we’d see another infamous Marvel villain make its way into the MCU. The reason we say ‘it’ is because this villain isn’t human. It is an intergalactic alien dragon that goes by the name of Fin Fang Foom. So far, the only trace of the intergalactic dragon in the MCU has been an Easter Egg that was hidden in the first Iron Man movie. Since it is an alien dragon, the big creature hasn’t found its way into the MCU yet. We saw a fire dragon at Muspelheim. But it doesn’t even come close to the might of Fin Fang Foom.
The people who aren’t familiar with the character should know that Foom’s comic backstory goes that he’s part of alien race called the Makluan who landed in ancient China and has been in hibernation for a millennia. Finally, the dragon will be woken up in the upcoming movie as in the comics also, it is eventually awoken by none other than the Mandarin.
Fin Fang Foom arrived on Earth in a space ship which had the “10 rings” that were stolen by the Mandarin. Using those rings, the Iron Man villain tried to control the dragon & threaten the Chinese Government with it. It’ll be amazing to see something like this happen in the MCU. Although people might be curious to know why these insane rings of power and a freakin’ dragon haven’t made an appearance in the MCU till now. What’s even more intriguing is the fact that Shang-Chi and his friends will have to fight Tony Leung’s Mandarin, and a living, breathing alien Dragon.
Back at SDCC, when Simu Liu was announced as Shang-Chi, his character was described by Comicbook.com:
“Raised to become a deadly assassin, Shang-Chi’s life gets turned upside down when he finds out the nefarious details surrounding his father. Shang-Chi then sets out to right his father’s wrongs, becoming Marvel’s “Master of Kung Fu” and serving as a member of Heroes for Hire and the Avengers.”
Since the movie has begun production, we can be sure that Marvel’s casting process for this movie would’ve been completed already. We should expect a lot of Asian actors. We really hope for this film to be successful. But if Marvel is to turn this into a franchise then they will have to make sure of 3 things –
* Make the fighting look real and extremely awesome.
* Give the villain & the hero proper breathing room
* Have even bigger plans for the sequel.
Talking about the sequel, we might actually get to see the introduction of Iron Fist. In the Iron Fist comics’ lore, even Danny Rand has to fight a Dragon in order to become the Immortal Iron Fist. So, if he will make his MCU debut in Shang-Chi 2, then perhaps we might see yet another dragon in the sequel. Or who knows, perhaps the Dragon in the caves of K’un-Lun and Fin Fang Foom are one & the same in the MCU. Let’s see what happens.
