Netflix Takes Us Behind the Scenes on The Sandman
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

We’re still waiting for our first images and trailer from Netflix’s highly anticipated adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s visionary work of fantasy, The Sandman, but the streamer gave fans their first taste of what we’re in for today with a new behind the scenes video featuring Gaiman, as well as cast members Tom Sturridge and Gwendoline Christie. While the sneak peek didn’t include any footage from the series, it did give us a look at some of the show’s sets and props, which along with being undeniably impressive, included a few elements sure to make fans happy…

So, we spotted Dream’s three lost items—his ruby, helmet and pouch of sand—as well as characters like Matthew the Raven and Goldie, the little gargoyle. That was definitely a “Cereal Convention” sign we saw for a second, as well as the Magdalene Grimoire and the circle used to capture Morpheus at the start of the saga. In short, there’s more than enough to get us excited and impatient to see more!

We’ve been keeping pretty close tabs on The Sandman since it was first announced in July, 2019, but in case you haven’t been following along, it’s based on Gaiman’s iconic Vertigo series which helped launch the imprint and define it throughout the 1990s. The Netflix series is executive produced and co-written by Gaiman, David S. Goyer (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight) and Allan Heinberg (Wonder Woman), who serves as The Sandman’s showrunner. The show’s massive cast includes Sturridge in the title role, as well as Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Death, Vivienne Acheampong as Lucienne, Christie as Lucifer, Charles Dance as Roderick Burgess, Boyd Holbrook as the Corinthian, David Thewlis as John Dee, Kyo Ra as Rose Walker and many more. (For more on the cast, you’ll want to click here and here.)

One thing we don’t yet know is when The Sandman will debut, so we’ll have to stay tuned for news on that. But for now, we’d love to know what you think about this trip behind the scenes. Head on over to the DC Community to share your thoughts and speculation. Is The Sandman shaping up to be everything you Dreamed?
