Injustice Movie Featuring Evil Superman:
The DC Extended Universe was DC Comics‘ attempt at making a shared superhero cinematic universe on the lines of the MCU. While it had many takers, the DCEU also had many critics who never understood its charm and appeal, wantonly detesting it just because they had become accustomed to the light formulaic humor of the Marvel movies. But if you think the DCEU is dead after Zack Snyder and the rest of his stars’ departure, you could not be more wrong. There might be subtle hints being teased that indicate the DCEU is coming back and staying true to its ideals, this time it will be darker and grittier than it already was. DC is reportedly trying to make an Injustice universe!
The Co-Creator of the popular Mortal Kombat series of videogames – Ed Boon, who is also the head at Nether Realm Studios – a popular gaming company, has hinted at the possibility of an Injustice universe. Ed Boon was instrumental in creating the Mortal Kombat series, a game that was developed with only 4 people on board in 1992. More than 20 years later, his company Nether Realm Studios was the one that released Injustice: Gods Among Us, a video game that gained widespread popularity due to featuring similar levels of violence and gore with DC Superheroes as playable characters. Now the same guy who came up with Injustice is now teasing about an Injustice movie. We might be onto something here.
Injustice: Gods Among Us takes place in an alternate reality Earth. The Joker detonates a nuclear bomb in Metropolis, killing millions. He then tricks Superman into killing his then-pregnant wife Lois Lane by launching her into the stratosphere. Superman, realizing that the only way he can stop the word from going out of bounds like that ever again, is by him using his power to take control, decides to embrace the Dark Side. He murders the Joker and then goes on to set up an oppressive tyrannical world government called the Regime that now controls the whole world.
Batman and a group of superheroes that oppose Superman’s extremist views from the Insurgency a resistance movement. Injustice was so popular that Nether Realm Studios even released Injustice 2, which carried forward the storyline from the final events of Injustice: Gods Among Us.
Ed Boon takes to Twitter to express his views regarding the future of the DC Universe. An ardent believer in the Snyder Cut, Boon presses Warner Brothers to release the one true version of the Justice League to honor Zack Snyder’s legacy. At the same time, he posts something very interesting in a potential future movie for the DCEU. This is the post we are talking about:
An Evil Superman scene already exists within the purview of the DC Universe. In Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, we see a dystopian futuristic world where the world has been reduced to a wasteland. Batman now fights an invisible foe who has managed to take control of the Man of Steel, turning him evil. The scene is colloquially known as the Knightmare sequence and it could be the inspiration for Warner Brothers to greenlight an Injustice movie project. Frankly, with the DCEU getting so much flak for being dark while there are still a majority of fans that liked the grittier tone, it is time WB Studios creates and caters to that latter niche segment of customers who prefer such movies. An Injustice movie makes perfect sense form that angle.
The last movie to be released under the DC banner was Joker. The official film synopsis for the movie reads:
Forever alone in a crowd, failed comedian Arthur Fleck seeks connection as he walks the streets of Gotham City. Arthur wears two masks — the one he paints for his day job as a clown, and the guise he projects in a futile attempt to feel like he’s part of the world around him. Isolated, bullied and disregarded by society, Fleck begins a slow descent into madness as he transforms into the criminal mastermind known as the Joker.
Do I really look like a guy with a plan? You know what I am? I’m a dog chasing cars. I wouldn’t know what to do with one if I caught it! You know, I just… do things
