The upcoming Disney+ Hawkeye series is among those that we know the least about. It comes in the same category as Moon knight, She-Hulk and Ms. Marvel. That’s because it is far away from its production. It was supposed to go under production later this year, but the Coronavirus has surely pushed its arrival to 2022. From what we know so far, this series is supposed to give Clint the exposure he deserves and then maybe a worthy retirement.
Along with Clint, we know for a fact that Kate Bishop will be introduced in the series. We’ve seen a couple concept arts of that already and it was even teased right in the beginning of Avengers: Endgame. Kate Bishop is going to take the mantle of Hawkeye and she will join the Young Avengers in the future.
Further reports also claimed that not just Kate Bishop, we will also see Hawkeye’s older brother from the comics, Barney Barton. He is a true anti-hero that many people would know as Trickshot. The show will actually give us a good look into Hawkeye’s past, present & future and it will explore Hawkeye’s troubled internal family dynamics.
Now, a latest scoop from Roger Wardell reveals that we’d be seeing yet another individual from the Marvel Comics lore. In fact, we’ve already seen this character on the small screen as it is none other than Barbara “Bobbi” Morse aka Mockingbird. Adrianne Palicki played the character in Season 2 & Season 3 of Agents of SHIELD. And now, she is seemingly reprising her role in the Hawkeye show just like James D’Arcy did from Agent Carter to Avengers: Endgame.
Does this mean that Marvel will finally acknowledge Agents of SHIELD to be a part of the core MCU? Probably not. Mockingbird could actually be coming with a rebooted backstory that is connected to Hawkeye. She is his love interest in the comics so maybe in the series, she became a love interest during the 5 years Hawkeye was killing bad guys as Ronin. Or she could actually be an ex from Hawkeye’s younger days before he met with Laura. Either way, it is cool to see an Agents of SHIELD character in the main Universe. This gives us hope that Agent Coulson will soon reappear in the MCU after the 7th season of Agents of SHIELD ends.
Moving on, Wardell also teases that one of the episodes is going to explore Barton’s dark side and his life as a Ronin. Well, we initially thought that the villain of the Hawkeye series will actually be someone who wants revenge from Ronin. But it seems that only one episode will deal with his dark past. Still, it’s cool that we’re getting more from Ronin, and a few other things that we didn’t know about Hawkeye.
We should expect this series to be totally awesome. Here’s what Executive producer Trinh Tran had to say about the upcoming Hawkeye series on Disney+:
“We’re treating our shows as if we’re making our features,” Tran said in the one on one interview. “I mean, the feel and the quality of those TV shows are going to be like the Marvel movies that you’ve seen. So that’s always been [Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige]’s mindset of let’s make sure that when people are going to be watching these episodes, it’s going to feel like it’s just one long movie except rather than two-and-a-half hours, it’s going to be much longer. And the idea behind certain characters getting their shows is because we’ll have a lot more time to be able to develop these characters rather than the shorter.”
Let’s summarize what all we should be excited about – Hawkeye mentoring Kate Bishop, Clint’s dynamic with Mockingbird, his family dynamic with Trickshot & his dark past of Avengers: Endgame after he lost his family. As for what happened in Budapest, that will be resolved in Black Widow.
