Christina Ricci Stars as Harley Quinn in New Spotify Series

Before Dr. Harleen Quinzel became the notorious Gotham City villain known as Harley Quinn, she was a renowned psychologist who was gifted at getting in the heads of some of Arkham’s most disturbed residents.

Are you ready to let her into yours?

Spotify today announced their latest audio series produced in partnership with Warner Bros. and DC, Harley Quinn & The Joker: Sound Mind, a dark psychological thriller featuring Gotham’s most infamous pair. Developed, written and directed by Eli Horowitz (Homecoming), Harley Quinn & The Joker: Sound Mind promises to give us Harley’s perspective on her seductive descent into infamy.

Leading the cast as Harley is Christina Ricci, the Addams Family and Sleepy Hollow star who recently scored an Emmy nomination for her role in Yellowjackets. Joining her will be No Time to Die’s Billy Magnussen as the Joker and Justin Hartley (This is Us) as Batman. DC fans will know that this is hardly Hartley’s first DC project, having played (a very Batman-like) Oliver Queen for multiple seasons of Smallville as well as an unhinged Man of Steel in the animated film Injustice.

Harley Quinn & The Joker: Sound Mind promises to tell an original story told from Harley Quinn’s perspective, set in her days at Arkham. When listeners meet Harley, she’s still Dr. Harleen Quinzel, a gifted psychologist at Arkham Asylum in Gotham City determined to help the patients her colleagues have written off. But her dad is sick and in need of an expensive life-saving operation Harleen can’t afford. So, when she meets “Patient J,” a unique criminal who seems to have a strange power over everyone but her, Harleen makes a fateful decision: to use her relationship with J to get what she needs, leading both of them down a dangerous path that will change their lives forever.

Harley Quinn & The Joker: Sound Mind is the second audio series to come from Spotify’s multi-year narrative podcast agreement with Warner Bros. and DC. The first, the David S. Goyer-produced Batman Unburied, debuted earlier this year to critical acclaim and global success, reaching the top spot on Spotify’s podcast chart in seventeen markets and picking up a renewal for a second season.

Harley Quinn & The Joker: Sound Mind is executive produced by Julie McNamara, Liz Gateley and Rachel Wolf for Spotify with physical production being handled by Realm. Along with Horowitz, writers Matthew Derby and Rachel Khong will also be contributing to the script.

Batman Unburied proved to be quite popular with many of you, so we’re excited to hear what all of you think of this new announcement. You ready to put your headphones back on for another audio adventure? Let us know your thoughts right now over in the DC Community!
