An alternate Black Widow ending has been released and Marvel fans believe it would have made for a much better send-off for the superhero.

The recent blockbuster film – which sees Scarlett Johansson reprise her MCU role as Natasha Romanoff – is a prequel, set after the events of Captain America: Civil War.

***Spoilers for Black Widow below***

The film’s final moments effectively set up the events of Infinity War (2018), with a newly blonde Natasha leaving her family to get on a jet to help free some of her fellow Avengers from prison.

Some fans have argued that the ending was “too on the nose”.

As reported by Digital Spy, an alternate ending is now available to watch as Black Widow has made its move to a wider digital release following an exclusive run on Disney Plus Premier Access.

As part of the film’s home release, viewers have access to bonus features including deleted scenes.

In one of the scenes – titled “Ohio” – Johansson’s Natasha is seen returning to Ohio, to visit the childhood home she shared with Alexei (David Harbour), Melina (Rachel Weisz) and Yelena (Florence Pugh).

As she looks sadly at the house, she spots kids playing nearby and pretending to be various Avengers, including one child dressed up as Black Widow herself.

The child then approaches Natasha, playfully firing a “Widow’s Bite” (an electroshock) at the superhero who wistfully returns it.

Fans have argued that the heartwarming moment would have made for a better end to the film, bringing Natasha’s story full circle with her returning to her home in Ohio and witnessing the legacy of the Avengers.
