The Plot Hole Behind Thanos’ Gauntlet:
The Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy & Age of Ultron led the way for Thanos to finally make his entry in Avengers: Infinity War. But with his transition into Infinity War, people did have a couple of problems. The first was that the design & CG of Thanos looked different. While people could certainly ignore the change in his clothing & armor, the change in the skin tone was pretty apparent. Anyway, that wasn’t the main cause of distress. The main inexplicable error for people was Thanos’ Gauntlet in Age of Ultron.
As Ultron had failed in Avengers: Age of Ultron & Loki had failed in The Avengers, we got a post credits scene showing how Thanos was ready to take the Avengers on now. But this scene confused people when they later saw Infinity War. That’s because first of all it took Thanos 3 years more after Age of Ultron, and then there was this gauntlet story in Infinity War which didn’t match with this Age of Ultron post credits scene.
People were left asking that how did Thanos take out the Gauntlet from his own vault as early as Age of Ultron if he actually got one working model made from Eitri. And how come Thanos’ Age of Ultron Gauntlet looked so different from his Infinity War Gauntlet? As it turns out, the one that we saw in the post credits sequence was also a fake. Writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely have finally solved this supposed plot hole.
Avengers: Infinity War’s Quarantine Watch Party was held yesterday and it was revealed that Thanos had a prototype Gauntlet. There was an ancient idea, this myth about a weaponized glove that could unite all the Infinity Stones. This idea is what led Odin to end up with a fake Infinity Gauntlet of his own. And it is what led Thanos to have one as well. Thanos took his Gauntlet out of his vault as a prototype idea for Eitri. Here’s what the writers said:
“I believe there is an existing myth of a gauntlet that could unify the stones. Hence the fake one in Odin’s vault, and Thanos wearing this fashionable “practice gauntlet.” When he needed a real one, he went to Eitri. Who also provided a handy carrying case.”
After Thanos forced Eitri, he came up with a mold to make a real Gauntlet using the idea of Thanos’ practice gauntlet. It’s great to know that the Age of Ultron scene was not a plot hole and had a purpose in the larger narrative of the MCU. It’s interesting that the writers say that there was a myth about a Gauntlet that could unify the stones. Now we’ll have to wait and see if this myth somehow ties into Eternals.
We have theorized that the Eternals will somehow give us a bit from Thanos’ past, and it will possibly include the Infinity Stones as well. So, what the writers of Infinity War & Endgame are proposing here could end up in the story of the film. We’ve already heard several people say that Thanos isn’t fully done with the MCU just yet. We’re probably going to see a younger version of him Eternals. Recently, even Thanos creator Jim Starlin said this when he was asked if he was satisfied with how Thanos’ story came to an end in the biggest film of all time. He replied by saying that he doesn’t really believe Thanos’ story arc to be fully complete, and he believes that Thanos will be seen soon enough.
“Well, I understand that the story’s not completely ended. They’ve already announced that. I think a young Thanos appears in The Eternals. I remember reading that somewhere. They made a shit load of money off this guy. So I don’t see them retiring him anytime soon. Comic book characters tend to have an extended lifespan beyond the actors who work on them. I’m half expecting to see much more Thanos down the line.”
It makes sense that we’d be seeing more of Thanos soon. Would you be interested? Tell us in the comments.
